As voters gear up for the 2012 election, both Republicans and Democrats are preparing to go on the offensive.

Republicans and their conservative base are expected to point out President Obama’s dangerous ties and disastrous record. Alternatively, Democrats and their liberal cohorts will rely on class warfare rhetoric, “Occupy Wall Street,” and more violent measures to attain their goals.

Most pointedly, one leftist organization keen on re-electing President Obama is the Service Employees International Union (SEIU).

In February, Washington Examiner’s Tim Carney highlighted its close ties to the Obama Administration. He expounded on campaign donations and frequent White House visits from SEIU’s president, Andy Stern.

That being said, the SEIU will play an integral role in President Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign given their previous 28 million dollar donation to him in 2008.

What exactly is the SEIU and what does it stand for?

Historically, the SEIU claims to represent “underrepresented and exploited workers,” tracing its legacy back to 1921.

Their website reads, “…members of seven small flat janitor unions dared to dream they could build their strength by forming a single organization, the Building Service Employees International Union, BSEIU. A union of mostly immigrant workers, BSEIU was primarily organized of janitors and window washers in its early years–workers who were excluded from other unions at the time. BSEIU faced opposition from building owners, the courts, and even other unions, but managed to quickly grow from 200 members in 1921 to 250,000 by 1960.”

It adds, “From those humble beginnings grew an organization of 2.2 million janitors, nursing home workers, nurses, child care providers, security officers, county and city workers, and other workers. Today SEIU is the fastest-growing union in North America, uniting workers in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.”

Although the SEIU claims to champion worker rights, their motives and actions prove otherwise.

The SEIU is violent.

The SEIU website reads, “SEIU members keep our buildings and communities safe and clean and our families healthy, we care for our children and our elderly, and keep our cities and states running.”

RedState contributor Labor Union Report expounds on the violent nature of the union organization. He directs readers to recent SEIU job listings:

Leadership Development:

• Leading members and organizers to develop curriculum and lead leadership development trainings
Train and lead members in non-violent civil disobedience, such as occupying state buildings and banks, and peaceful resistance.
• Implement leadership program with the goal of engaging 10% of members in active leadership and majority participation

Member Mobilization:

Execute field plans mobilizing members around political campaigns, annual Leadership Convention, lobby days, regional meetings.

• Execute field plans for special campaigns including contract campaigns, ballot initiatives, COPE contributions, general membership growth and the broader campaign to fight for a fair economy.

Plan and execute strategic direct action field plans including banner drops, bank takeovers, and capitol occupations with membership, other local unions, and coalition partners

Most recently, SEIU organizers teamed up with other “Occupy Wall Street” participants to storm the private home of Greg Baer, who is the  deputy counsel for corporate law at Bank of America.

The SEIU is racist.

The website adds, “We stand up for justice and for civil rights for all–for immigrants, for women, for LGBT workers, for people of color, for all workers–because we know that’s the only way we can move our country forward.”

In August 2009, Kenneth Gladney—a black conservative activist—was brutally beaten by SEIU teamsters in St. Louis while handing out “Don’t Tread on Me” flags. He was subjected to racial slurs and beatings from the union thugs for associating with the Tea Party Movement. Additionally, the NAACP ignored this incident as Gladney did not fit the leftist mold. For a group that champions minority rights, this proved counterproductive to their mission statement:

The SEIU is corrupt.

Syndicated columnist and conservative activist Michelle Malkin exposed SEIU’s corrupt nature in her brilliant treatise, Culture of Corruption.

Malkin wrote, “The L.A. Times investigation zeroed in on Tyrone Freeman who, like Barack Obama, began his career as an urban community organizer.”

“Freeman, the L.A. Times discovered, had piped $600,000 in union contracts to his wife’s video production and entertainment ventures. The local also paid his mother-in-law $8,000 a month to babysit his daughter and other union employees’ children; footed a $13,000 bill for membership at a Beverly Hills cigar club; covered $12,500 in tabs at upscale Morton’s restaurant in Burbank; and forked over $8,000 in union dues to cover expenses for Freeman’s Hawaiian wedding. Freeman’s spending orgy didn’t end there,” she added.

Before casting a vote for President Obama in 2012, be sure to note his close ties to the SEIU – a relationship born out of mutual disdain for free markets, rule of law, and civility. The question beckons: how can Americans trust a president whose allegiance lies with union thugs, anarchists, and Marxists rather than the American people?

Americans cannot be duped by unions—particularly, public sector unions—any longer due to their brutal tactics, anti-American goals, and disrespect for dissenting viewpoints. Come 2012, voters should challenge them and expose them.
