Aristotle once opined, “Youth is easily deceived because it is quick to hope.”

On that token, it can be ascertained that President Obama swindled young voters—along with the rest of America—prior to and during his time in office.

During the 2008 election, many of our peers—predominantly leftist ones—fawned over then-candidate Obama and succumbed to his wily charm on Election Day. Endless and equally repetitive chants of “Hope and Change” and “Yes We Can!” intoxicated albeit deceived many young adults.  Little did they know that Obama’s calls for “fundamentally transforming America” would unfold before their very eyes.

Many young voters—affectionately dubbed “Obama Zombies” by Jason Mattera in his namesake book—swooned over President Obama. In Obama Zombies, Mattera cleverly detailed how then-candidate Obama fooled young people with his empty promises of sunshine and lollipops.

He explained, “…Obama said, he would send a government unicorn down from the sky to fly us up to the left’s government-run world where people dance across streets of government-owned gold, eating FDA-approved candy canes while watching multiculturally appropriate edited re-runs of Baywatch—guilt free,” (Mattera xii).

One notable example he also referenced was an O-gasm documented by MTV after President Obama’s win:

“It’s probably the most excited I’ve ever been in my entire life. I seriously think I had an emotional seizure or something. My whole body seized up. I couldn’t breathe. It’s like I really mattered. … I picked the president! That was me! … I think I’m in love with America right now!”

It is undeniable that young people touted Obama as the chosen candidate—the ‘Messiah’—to save America from ruin. He was poised to remedy the country of political turmoil. He was poised to depart from the status quo and govern as a pragmatist. He was poised to be the hip, cool president that transcended the odds.

In reality, he has wrought the opposite by delivering dangerous policies.

Instead of instituting the ‘reforms’ he touted, President Obama has aided and abetted the divisiveness inset in this country with his penchant for class warfare rhetoric, for betraying allies, and for creating an unfriendly business climate, to name a few.

What is more unsettling about Obama and his administration is how they set up Generation Y for failure.

In a recent Washington Times article, Ron Meyer and Nathan Harden detailed the Youth Misery Index (YMI)  and what it spells for our generation under Obama’s presidency.

They write, “…the Youth Misery Index uses simple addition to combine youth unemployment, average graduating student debt (in thousands), and national debt per capita (in thousands).”

“Youth unemployment is at 17.4 percent – one of the highest levels since World War II. Average graduating student debt has reached a record-breaking $26,300. National debt per capita is $46,900 – the highest ever. Add it up, and the Youth Misery Index comes out to 90.6,” they added.

Due to such exorbitant debt, lack of personal responsibility, and government spending in Obama’s first term, young people must deny him a second term.

Contrary to popular belief, there is a glimmer of hope for young people.

On December 15, 2011, Harvard’s Institute of Politics released findings of growing dissatisfaction with President Obama among young voters. The survey revealed that they foresee an Obama defeat in 2012.

The survey concluded, “A new national poll of America’s 18- to 29- year olds by Harvard’s Institute of Politics (IOP), located at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, finds more Millennials predict President Barack Obama will lose his bid for re-election (36%) than win (30%).”

“The new survey also shows former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney fairing best among potential Republican challengers in a general election match-up against President Obama, trailing the President by eleven percentage points (Obama: 37%, Romney: 26%),” it added.

Aristotle also opined, “Good habits formed at youth make all the difference.”

If young people are educated about the beauty of capitalism, traditional values, hard work, and constitutional principles, then they can be spared from the wrath of liberal policies. If young people switch their voting patterns early on, then they will secure their futures.

At first, young leftists will be reluctant to open their eyes to conservatism. Yet, upon realization of this administration’s damage to the economy and to society, they will grow terrified and wake up.

May young people reclaim this great republic from the evil clutches of Cultural Marxists, Keynesian economists, and “Occupy Wall Street” hooligans come Election Day 2012.
