Death Threats Against Obama Not So Deadly

Kansas GOP House Speaker ‘Prays’ That Obama’s ’Children Be Fatherless And His Wife A Widow.‘”

This is the title of an article from the partisan left-wing website called thinkprogress.org.  Convincing, right?  Well, if you don’t do your own research, you will end up like the thousands of individuals who fell for the spin this website and many others have put on this story.  Here are some of the comments left following the article on thinkprogress.org:

“Time for the Secret Service to visit Speaker O’Neal and have a discussion with him. This is on the level of joking around about a bomb before you get on a plane”

“Can you imagine if a Democratic elected official had issued a prayer for the death of George W. Bush?” ”He’d have been waterboarded in Gitmo…”

“Hey Good Ole Boy Mikey… wouldn’t that just be all… a bible-thumping racist conservative tea party crasher that wants our president dead because… how dare a black democratic president want to fix the deficit, put people back to work, grow the economy, fix the mess Bush created, and have more, not less people participate in our democracy. But this bible-thumper wishes for the man’s death and his wife to be a widow, and for his children to become beggars, all because his politics are different that good ole boy Mikey, gee Mikey, seen any secret service lately? And he’s the speaker of the house in Kansas, what the hell is going on in Kansas where this bastion of free speech is your leader?”

Here is what really happened. Kansas House Speaker Mike O’Neal forwarded an email to his colleagues quoting the Bible passage Psalms 109:8, which reads, “Let his days be few; and let another take his office.”  This passage, primarily aimed at President Obama, has been seen on bumper stickers nationwide.  The verse that follows is what has the Left in an apoplectic frenzy: “Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.”

There is a big difference in hoping for a speedy Presidency (impeachment) and wishing death upon the President.  While Speaker O’Neal is held at a higher standard, it is foolish and highly misleading to insinuate that everyone who sports this passage on the bumper of their not so eco-friendly SUV wants the President dead.

What the Speaker did was foolish.  He did it in pure jest, but it should not have been done in the first place.  This was actually the second time he was involved in an email scandal; he should have learned his lesson.

There is an online petition circulating the internet calling for his resignation; it reads, “As people of faith, we believe that Scripture should never be used to justify praying for the death of anyone.  Speaker O’Neal’s hateful abuse of Scripture is unacceptable and a disgrace to his office, and he should immediately resign.”  This is the same self-proclaimed “faith based” organization that also delivered a petition to MSNBC demanding that they stop inviting Tony Perkins, President of the Family Research Council, on the show because, according to them, Perkins has a “long history of extreme, hateful rhetoric against gays and lesbians.”  Their definition of “hateful” is his stating that there is research which indicates that “homosexual men are more likely to abuse children than straight men.”  This organization also became highly defensive when Glenn Beck pointed out their connection to George Soros.

Speaker O’Neal, like many others, was only hoping for a speedy Presidency, not death.  The fact that the left had to go so far to spin a story that simply isn’t there is abhorrent.  The Speaker’s actions were immature and deplorable, but this is something the left engages in on a daily basis, the President included.  I do not recall thinkprogress.org or thehuffingtonpost.com making much noise about President Obama laughing hysterically, nearly choking on his champagne when “comedian” Wanda Sykes said she hopes Rush Limbaugh’s kidneys fail.  Or, what if a conservative movie producer were to produce an award-winning film depicting President Obama’s assassination, as was done to President Bush?  I can only imagine.

It’s easy to point the finger at the Left, but they are only doing what comes naturally to them.  What I am hoping, though, is that people begin to do their own homework.  Don’t assume.  Don’t guess.  Don’t hope that someone is telling the truth.

  1. It’s politics, people are bound to do this, especially when involved with major media. Fox, I believe, tried to spin The Muppet Movie for being allegedly anti corporation, anti free market and such, when it was a kid’s movie talking about puppets competing against a corrupt oil tycoon, who was clearly bad because he abused the free market, not because he used it properly.

I don’t deny there’s an issue here and I agree in principle that it was in poor taste. But I don’t know if you should put this entirely on the left. Any politically savvy media personality can try to spin anything that occurs in relation to someone they hold in high regard and characterize it as an attack even if it isn’t.

I would never want death for barry hussien obama; no my dream is to see him perpwalked to a police cruiser, go through a speedy trial for fraud, and an extended stay at leavenworth(15-20 years)after which we find him pushing a derelict grocery cart with a bad wheel down a trashy alley way on the streets of chicago, where he asks random strangers for money.

    Ah dreams…!

Just because politics is dirty sometimes does not make something as serious as false accusations of death threats in any way acceptable. Similarly, just because the right sometimes makes grave errors like this one, does not make it any more acceptable for the left to do it. Liberals always espouse tolerance, objectivism, and fairness, and yet they clearly have trouble upholding the standards they create for the right. I think mischaracterizing a politician in this way is completely condemnable and I truly hope people do more research before becoming another mindless lemming to the lies of thinkprogress.org.

Indeed. Now, I do think that there would be major concern if he really had sent the “wife be widowed” verse. But I really think that this is a classic form of scapegoating, which the liberals love to use. They hate everybody who has one of these bumper stickers, so their going after somebody in authority whom they can attach to this, thus tar-and-feathering these people by proxy.

Speaking of research, can anybody fill me in on that Perkins report? As a conservative guy who just so happens to like other conservative guys, those findings are a little troubling. What was the rationale? Self-repression, sexual frustration? I would really like to see why he came to that conclusion. I’m not gonna lose sleep over it, I’m just intrigued.

I feel someone (certainly me) needs to apologize to you as well as the other writers on College Conservative for allowing our political class to create such a economic and governmental mess. I sure at this point you only have a vague idea of the impact this is going to have on you lives. (and is having already)

The other sad thing is you younger folks will not know the country us older folks grew up in….. where everything was possible, tomorrows would be better, and the we were only limited by our drive and imagination.

Don’t give up…Keep writing… It is your voice that will replace the liberal media… docnick

And thanks for thinking about me…I’ll send your article out on our next posting. docnick

What’s sad, Ms. Golden, is that you are defending him and pretending that the exact meaning of ““Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.” is not an imprecatory prayer aimed at our President. Are you really going to say that this is NOT? College-educated doesn’t necessarily mean aptitude in comprehension, does it?

Why defend a group that is bent on seeing nonwhites and women relegated back to second-class citizens? Your race and gender indicate you would be among the first to be denied college, equal pay in jobs, and a voice if you were discriminated against.

I feel sorry for you and any children you raise to sit on the porch.
