With less than two weeks until Missouri’s primary, statewide candidates are entering the period seen as the last chance to sway undecided voters and fundraise for their campaigns.
Their last hope: endorsements from party and national leaders.
In the race for Governor, former Missouri Speaker of the House Catherine Hanaway, has been given an ‘A’ rating from the National Rifle Association, and endorsements from Right to Life, former Missouri Governor and Senator Kit Bond, and South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley. Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder has been given an ‘A+’ rating by the National Rifle Association, and has been endorsed by Right to Life, several Navy SEALs two times, radio host Rush Limbaugh, and national conservative icon Dana Loesch. Businessman John Brunner has been endorsed by Right to Life, Gun Owners of America, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul, Mike Huckabee’s daughter Sarah Huckabee. Eric Greitens has struggled behind them, failing to get the Right to Life’s endorsement, incorrectly understanding the NRA’s rating system, however he has won the endorsement of Robert O’Neill, one of many Navy SEALs to have controversy over their public life after military service.
When it comes to the State Treasurer’s race, the entire Republican field has rallied behind State Senator Eric Schmitt. In the Secretary of State’s Race, State Senator Will Kraus has touted a hulking list of state legislators behind him as well as Right to Life. Meanwhile, his opponent, Jay Ashcroft, has received the endorsement of a key Missouri legislator, The Eagle Forum, Right to Life, Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, Former Arkansas Governor and two-time presidential candidate Mike Huckabee.
In the very heated Attorney General primary, State Senator Kurt Schaefer has received the endorsements of the National Rifle Association, Right to Life, almost all Missouri Republican legislators, and the Missouri State Troopers Association as well as a successful legislative history. University professor Josh Hawley, who has little prosecuting experience, has been endorsed by Right to Life, FreedomWorks, Gun Owners of America, Citizen United PAC, Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich, Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt, West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey, former Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum, former Missouri Governor and Senator Kit Bond, former Missouri Senator John Danforth, former United State Attorney General Edwin Meese, conservative news leader Erick Erickson, and conservative news outlet National Review.
Despite these major endorsements, help on the campaign trail, confrontational political ads, and very opinionated Republican camps, Missouri Republican statewide candidates have pledged to unite after the August 2nd primary. With a united Missouri Republican Party, our candidates will work together to do everything they can to help Missourians, and change the direction Missouri has been heading for the past eight years under liberals Governor Jay Nixon and Attorney General Chris Koster. Together, Republican candidates offer a better way for Missourians.
