HBO’s adored television show Game of Thrones, based on George R. R. Martin’s original book A Song of Ice and Fire, has broken a record of the most awards for any television series or show. Game of Thrones keeps viewers on their toes, impressing everyone this past season’s finale. Donald Trump has skillfully navigated his way through the political arena. As of March 2016, he received $2 Billion worth of free media coverage. Last week, Trump played the media game like Cersei Lannister.
Caution: the article is dark and full of spoilers.
First, a crowd gathered at the majestic Septa of Baelor for Cersei Lannister and Loras Tyrell’s trials. While waiting for Cersei’s arrival, the High Sparrow starts Loras Tyrell’s trial turning him into a devoted servant. The High Sparrow reassures Margaery of Loras’s freedom; the entire ceremony was a political stunt. Outside the Sept, Qyburn tells Grand Maester Pycelle that his death is necessary to bring new leadership and then kills him.
At the Sept, everyone is waiting for Cersei who doesn’t come. Margaery realizes that Cersei’s absence implies Cersei’s intention to not experience any consequence and she is actually the one in danger. The ground rumbles and the crowd screams as wildfire destroys them all. After seeing the explosion, we see Cersei calm and content.
On September 16th, National POW/MIA Recognition Day, Donald Trump was scheduled to make a statement at the new majestic Trump International Hotel, the former historic post office on Pennsylvania Avenue. His statement was announced to be about the birther controversy scheduled for 9 AM. The audience and news reporters at the Trump rally waited for hours. Meanwhile, news networks recorded veterans on Trump’s stage. When he entered, he aired endorsements from respected military personnel. Was he bridging votes from the military community after calling John McCain a loser?
With only a few moments remaining Donald made his explosive “birther announcement,” blaming Hillary’s campaign for starting the birther conflict and taking credit for ending the conflict by admitting to President Obama’s citizenship. News reporters were screaming and the audience was cheering. Donald left calm and content.
Cersei’s and Donald’s explosions certainly made a ripple effect. Cersei alienated herself to the Iron Throne. Will Donald alienate himself to the White House, America’s Iron Throne?
