This weekend brought us another awards show (the Grammys) that was full of “courageous” political statements. Opposed to the Golden Globes, the Grammys showed a rare mixture of pro and anti-Trump sentiments. Naturally, they skewed heavily to the left. Katy Perry, James Corden, and Beyoncé all made swipes at the new administration; along with a few others that, quite frankly, I hadn’t heard of.

Singer/songwriter Joy Villa made quite the pro-Trump statement on the red carpet. She donned an evening gown that had Trump’s signature phrase “Make America Great Again” written down the front and “Trump” across the back.  Villa explained her fashion decision on her Instagram: “Go big, or go home. You can either stand for what you believe or fall for what you don’t. Above all make a choice for tolerance and love. Agree to disagree.”

Some claim that this move was simply to garner attention. But she clarified her stance on Trump

“I am 100 percent a Trump supporter. I believe in his message, I believe he will run this country like he runs his life, successfully.”

So in case the dress wasn’t clear enough, Ms. Villa is a loud and proud Trump supporter.

Regardless of her motives, her statement did work for her popularity as her music sales skyrocketed after the awards. The 25 year-old’s album jumped to No. 7 on iTunes and reached the top of Amazon’s digital albums.

Unfortunately, the Left can’t handle the Right politicizing things. Villa received numerous death threats and vile messages on Twitter from anti-Trump Leftists. Remember kids, this is all about a dress.

For an ideology that’s all about racial equality (Villa is African-American) and feminism (Villa refers to herself as one in her Twitter bio), they don’t seem to handle dissent too well.

As for those who promote the political narrative, their popularity will remain. The Left’s base relies on politicizing everything. The state is their God and must be worshiped in every aspect of life.  Cultural commentary is going to be very taxing over the next few years, but Katy Perry and her political peers need not worry. As long as they keep stoking the political fires, they’ll be just fine.
