I get it. We want to be polite and politically correct. We want to have a ‘safe society’. But here’s the deal: facts are facts, the news is the news. As the lovely Ben Shapiro says, facts don’t care about your feelings.
Yes, Let’s Talk About ‘Fake News’
We have become a society looking up at biased journalism and ‘fake news’, whereas regardless of your political affiliation, facts are facts. The truth is hard, evidence-based facts. Not what you want to believe, or rather, which pieces you want to believe. Media bias is strangely a controversial topic, however, it has been proven numerous times in a number of ways.
For example, the National Bureau of Economic Research defined and proved correlations between media subjectivity and endorsement to election results. An article for The Washington Times outlines the blatant disregard for the truth in huge media outlets like CNBC, CNN, and Politico. Everything from Hillary’s e-mails to WikiLeaks scandals has been spun in different ways in order to benefit the journalist’s party affiliation. Here’s the thing: Hillary deleted e-mails from a private server. Donald Trump made nasty comments about women years ago. That’s not controversial, that’s what happened. Another huge contributor to this? Social media. Our so-called journalists are more of TV Personalities than unbiased truth seekers. Our Jimmy Fallons and Seth Meyers’ may be solely entertainers, but this allows them to have an open one-sided view of politics that is very influential due to its high traffic. What we seek out for our news is also readily available on Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, and any local channel, allowing ANYONE to comment on ANYTHING, regardless of their knowledge on the subject.
Don’t get me wrong- I have a separate Twitter for politics and I am very open about my opinion. However, I am opinionated on my accounts that are party-affiliated. For example, I will write news and opinion for The College Conservative in regards to my party. This is a party and principle affiliated side. While we are very insistent on using credible news, this outlet is meant to have an approach to conservative politics. We are not claiming to be the end-all be-all of nonbiased media. C’mon. We’re called The College Conservative.
News outlets that claim to be nonpartisan, like CNN, NBC, FOX, ABC, WFAA, and Politico either need to claim their blatant bias or act like nonpartisan organizations.
Journalism in the mainstream news should be the seeking of truth and justice, not the ability to further a political agenda.
Check out this list of nonpartisan sites here. For the best in conservative news and opinion, stick around with us here at The College Conservative. We have such a talented staff that is dedicated to truth-seeking. And when it comes to our opinion, we can throw all the evidence your way.
