The Case Against Heartless Capitalism

I bet the title of this article grabbed your attention. However, I’m not going to cite Karl Marx’s Communist Manifesto or Ralph Nader’s rebuke of a free-market system. Instead, I’m going to go back to our very simple founding: the Founding Fathers themselves, Adam Smith’s “Theory of Moral Sentiments,” and even businessman Henry Ford. The men listed above are certainly not communists, but all of them share something in common: their works advocate civic virtue. They understand that a republican form of government and a capitalist economy are only successful through a virtuous populous. People must take care of...

Immigration is “An Act of Love”

The numbers are in. Both Governor Christie’s falling approval in New Jersey as well as his slimming chance to win the Republican nod in the primaries since the so-called “Bridgegate” scandal are giving rise to a different candidate from the Sunshine State: Governor Jeb Bush. Governor Jeb Bush has been around the block more than a few times, especially when it comes to education reform. Believe it or not, before cutting taxes and downsizing government, conservatives need to win elections. And the way we win is by electing real leaders. People, especially the independent voters we need to win elections, like good leaders. Facts speak for themselves. Be it with Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker trouncing teacher’s unions and winning a recall election against $10.75 million worth of negative ads from unions, or a then-unscathed Governor Christie...

The Human Element

Carbon is the basis of our chemical human composition. Three main elements orchestrate our bodies: oxygen (65 percent), carbon (18 percent), and hydrogen (10 percent). As similar as our makeup may be, however, our personal traits differ from person to person politically, socially, culturally, religiously, you name it. We are different from one another. It’s a beautiful fact. I cherish my many liberal friends that can challenge my views and I can (hopefully) challenge theirs. The issue at hand is the degree to which one holds a view. There is certainly nothing wrong with being liberal or conservative, but...
