A tragedy has struck Paris. The City of Lights was lit this week by the burning of Notre-Dame de Paris. On Monday morning, a fire stared somewhere amidst the roof and extensive scaffolding put in place to repair the church. The fire lasted some 15 hours, consuming the attic of the church, collapsing the spire, and melting the lead roof. Normally, the burning of a building would not attract much attention. But this Gothic monument is drawing global attention. It is being discussed by all the talking heads, bloggers, pod casters, and commentators. In short, it’s the hot topic for anyone...Read More

Minnesota’s newest Democrat representative in Congress, Ilhan Omar, has been in a lot of hot water lately. Omar, a Muslim woman from Minneapolis, has a history of anti-Semitic remarks. Unfortunately, when Democrats were put to the test, they utterly failed to condemn her. A History of Comments Last month, Omar was criticized for tweeting in 2012 the following: “Israel has hypnotized the world, may Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Israel. #Gaza #Palestine #Israel.” Around the same time, Rep. Omar also tweeted that, “It’s all about the Benjamin’s,” in reference to Jewish money in American politics....Read More
Myanmar (better known as Burma) has been accused of the ethnic cleansing of a group called the Rohingya. The Rohingya have long-lived along the Burmese eastern coast, which borders the heavily Muslim nation of Bangladesh. Most media treat the Rohingya as stateless people who have done little to deserve their plight. Some of this is true, and this complicates things. The Rohingya are both an ethnicity and, for the most part, are devout Muslims. Their mistreatment by the Burmese government may cross both ethnic and religious lines. But the media has missed a detail in their rush to proclaim a...Read More
Representative Steve King of Iowa was recently in the news cycle because he said something controversial. Again. But unlike past things he’s said, which were arguably not meant in a racist fashion, this latest comment raises serious concerns. King recently asked the following in an interview: “White nationalist, white supremacist, Western civilization — how did that language become offensive?” That sounds awful. But before we jump on the bandwagon, let’s look carefully at his record. King’s Past Statements In 2016, Rep. King told an Esquire writer at CPAC: The contributions that were made by Western civilization itself, and by Americans, by Americans of all races...Read More
The #MeToo Movement began as the long-overdue exposure of Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein’s horrendous behavior involving young actresses. Countless individuals in Hollywood, including other women who knew his victims, hid his misdeeds for decades. The hypocrisy came not from his victims, but from these powerful Hollywood elites. Many powerful people knew or suspected Weinstein’s behavior was monstrous, but looked away. Weinstein, Woody Allen, and the slow march of other stars revealed to have engaged in sick behavior became a tidal wave. Those two hit just about every note of evil creep with regards to younger women, and in reaction to such abuses, #MeToo came about. #MeToo...Read More
