Racism and the Redskins

Here’s to all you football fans out there who think the name “Redskins” is a team name and not a racist slur. That’s right, according to Representative Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) you’re all a bunch of haters if you don’t agree that the NFL team should change their name to something a little more friendly towards Native Americans. Norton heads up a group of ten House Representatives compiled of both Republicans and Democrats (all co-chairs in the Native American Caucus) who sent Redskins owner Dan Snider a letter urging him to change the “racist” name to something a little...

To Whom It May Concern: Rutgers University Is Clueless

In a message to TCC staff, an anonymous student at Rutgers University forwarded an e-mail from the University’s VP of Public Affairs encouraging students to contact New Jersey’s Representatives and Senators to show their approval of the DREAM Act. The Rutgers University e-mail (written by VP of Public Affairs Pete McDonough) read as follows: “As you may know, we have been working with New Jersey’s members of the US Senate and House of Representatives calling for the enactment of comprehensive immigration reform that includes the DREAM Act. Being Liberal: My Near-Death Experience

I have decided I’m going to convert. That’s right, Liberal-Progressive Democrats have persuaded me after I had a near-death experience. There I was, rolling down the highway riding shotgun with my Daddy driving his gas-guzzling, environment-killing F-350 Dually pick-up and listening to Rush Limbaugh shuffle papers with his formally nicotine-stained hands over the radio while discussing conservative policy, when a Prius pulled out in front of us. That’s when I saw it: A large blue bumper sticker with the words “coexist” written using religious symbols for letters. My entire politically-active collegiate career flashed before my eyes and it dawned on...

Of Murder, Gun Rights, And The Cry For Morality

Last Wednesday, President Obama announced the creation of a new gun violence “task force” that would immediately suggest policy changes concerning gun control in America after careful review of current laws and recent events. This new effort by the White House is to be lead by Vice President Joe Biden and comes soon after the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting, of which President Obama noted as a “wake-up call for all of us” in America. While this doesn’t necessarily come as a surprise to most Americans (particularly gun owners who have long been suspicious of where Obama stands concerning the...

An Idiot’s Guide To Voter ID Laws: College Edition

Upon reading an article in the Huffington Post, there’s one argument they make that I’d like to rip to shreds: Voter ID laws are discriminatory and newer voters will be scared away. As a “younger voter” this has become an offensive and alarming topic concerning my generation. The following is a helpful guide for my generation of supposedly lost (or clueless) voters, and hopefully a slap of reality to those saying such laws discriminate against college voters. Myth: Not allowing the use of Student IDs and college housing lists as proof of residency will turn away voters. Fact: Student...
