In the last few years, much has been made of the startling growth of government power, particularly government power housed in the executive branch. From refusing to punish the overreaches of the NSA to the unconstitutional decision to not enforce the laws of the nation, President Obama’s administration has edged closer and closer to the line that divides American government from the democracies of old. The Progressive movement, true to it’s name, doesn’t immediately move for everything it wants. It pushes, slowly, forcing opposition to progressive policies to withstand a crushing tide of pressure. The first steps in dismantling...Read More

So. That whole nightmare in September of 2012 that ended with the death of an ambassador was all part of a riot that sprung up in response to a YouTube video. It certainly wasn’t because it was 9/11. It certainly wasn’t Islamic extremists. The Secretary of State didn’t have any idea the consulate was asking for more security, and there were no troops in range of the Ambassador. Oh, sorry. Those are all from reports and statements that predate yesterday’s hearings. My mistake. It turns out every one of those things is untrue. The Secretary of State knew early...Read More
Everyone agrees Kermit Gosnell is a monster. He used dirty tools, and left blood soaked rags around his clinic. He lied to his under-trained staff about the legality of his practice. He kept the feet of aborted babies in jars in his office. This story is a stab directly into the soul of every person who is paying attention. This story should be the breaking point of the abortion debate, but it won’t be. It is the height of insanity to claim, as Gosnell’s lawyer did on the stand, that his client was innocent of killing a baby because,...Read More
Conservative writer/commentator S. E. Cupp made a big splash this week, when she spoke out in the New York Times Magazine about Rush Limbaugh. “And we can’t be afraid to call out Rush Limbaugh,” said Goodwin’s fiancée, S. E. Cupp, a New York Daily News columnist and a co-host of ”The Cycle” on MSNBC. “If we can get three Republicans on three different networks saying, ‘What Rush Limbaugh said is crazy and stupid and dangerous,’ maybe that’ll give other Republicans cover” to denounce the talk-show host as well. To me, what she said didn’t actually sound that bad. What...Read More
In the campaign of 2008, then-Senator Obama sharply critiqued George W. Bush for the use of signing statements to shape the implementation of law. Now, as is usual for this President, he did what he explicitly said should never be done, and used signing statements himself on numerous occasions. On Wednesday, President Obama took the idea of signing statements to a new level during his issuance of 23 executive actions on gun control, specifically to “[c]larify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes.” Interesting. There are some pretty obvious...Read More
