Dangerous Hypocrisy

Wasn’t it just last summer that our friends on the left were up in arms over middle-aged men (specifically, politicians) making statements about rape?  The last few days have been rank with double standards coming from the liberal crowd: personally insulting, misogynistic and just plain alarming comments that have illicited little, if any, outrage from those who claim to be so “pro-woman.” Rep. Joe Salazar, a particular Colorado University, Bob Beckel, and Amanda Marcotte make me fear for the safety of all women of this country. First, there was Colorado Democrat Joe Salazar. Last week, Salazar argued against conceal...

Obama is not America’s “Dad”

At a recent pro-gun control rally, comedian and actor Chris Rock stated that President Obama is like the “dad” and the “boss” of this country. One might consider these comments so ludicrous as to be unworthy of another mention. But they reveal a disturbing trend in the way modern America sees politicians and elected officials. When Chris Rock and others elevate the President, or any elected official regardless of party or principle, to a “fatherly” or “boss-like” role, there’s a disconnect between how these elected leaders are perceived by much of the public, and the purpose of an elected...

Life is Always Sacred

The 40th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision (January 22), a beautifully written speech and the moral status of this country have been weighing heavily on my mind. Shortly after the massacre in Newtown, President Obama gave an incredibly moving speech. In it, he spoke of the importance and necessity of protecting our nation’s children. He stated, “This is our first task—caring for our children. It’s our first job. If we don’t get that right, we don’t get anything right. That’s how, as a society, we will be judged.” I know Sandy Hook affected the President with the...

Hollyweird, Journalists, and Their Firearm Double Standards

Yes, I’m still talking about guns. Because so long as there are politicians and celebrities out there (likely protected by armed guards) who are hell-bent on unconstitutionally taking away my right to defend myself against those who would want to harm me, I find the topic relevant. Journalists and illustrious members of the Hollywood elite have taken advantage of the firearm debate to purport their anti-gun beliefs. Fine, you don’t agree that Americans should have the right to lawfully keep and bear arms. We disagree, but I can certainly—and willingly—accept a political disagreement. What I cannot accept are journalists,...

“Band-Aid” Solutions: Not the Answer to America’s Problems

I’m tired of America’s ineffectual yet pervasive “band-aid” method of solving problems. We see problems in our country, and we usually have good intentions in wanting to solve those problems (i.e. violence, unemployment, fiscal strife, unwanted pregnancy and abortion, obesity, and others). We say, “There ought to be a law!” We encourage legislation and pass law upon law, thinking the magic wand of government influence will solve that problem. Yet, the problems still exist. It’s because we’re looking at solving these problems all wrong. We’re only applying a band-aid to a wound that requires much deeper inspection, and a...
