Free speech is dying in California. The California UC and Cal-State system has one of the most restrictive speech code standards in the country. According to the Foundation for Individual Rights In Education (FIRE), UC Riverside and UC Merced are currently listed as “Red Light Schools” for their speech codes. FIRE utilizes a speech code rating system that ranks Green, Yellow, and Red, with green being the least restrictive speech code and red being the most. Donald Trump has become the definitive “hate speech” icon for leftists on campus. Colleges are no longer the great havens of free expression and discourse they once were. The era of “trigger warnings” has created a toxic and extreme environment that is killing critical thinking.
